Medals to Royal Dublin Fusilier officers and men during Easter Rising
I get the impression that because of the fallout from the Easter Rising, that there was little prominence to awards made in connection with it. The 4 awards to men in 10th Battalion RDF are not gazetted till Jan 1917
- Henchy, 2nd Lt A W , 10th battalion, was awarded the Military Cross in connection with the Dublin Rising (London Gazette 24 Jan 1917). He survived the war and departed a Lt.
- O'Neill 2nd Lt F , 10th battalion. He was wounded during the Easter Rising. Mentioned in Dispatches, brought to the notice of the Sec of State in the same connection. later killed in action 13 Nov 1916. During the Easter Rising The assault on The Daily Express offices was successfully carried out under very heavy fire
by a detachment of the 5th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers under Second Lieutenant F. O'Neill. He was gazetted to 5th and would appear to have been with them on the assault on the Daily Express offices. And was later killed while serving with 10th Battalion.
- Henderson A/RSM J S , 10th battalion. Mentioned in Dispatches, brought to the notice of the Sec of State in the same connection (this appears to be 14779 John Scott Henderson, who was later commissioned 21 Jun1918 into RASC, from his Medal card)
- Lynch A/RSM C. Mentioned in Dispatches, brought to the notice of the Sec of State in the same connection (25573 CSM Christopher Lynch is again in London Gazette MID 24 Jan 1917)
- Robinson Major R. H. St C. C., 5th Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers. His medals sold in 1998 - The Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Military) 1st type; Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal (Lt., Rl. Dub. Fus.); British War and Victory Medals (Major). Major Robinson served in the Easter Rebellion with the 5th Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, which took a prominent part in the battle of Cork Hill, around Dublin Castle and the Mail & Express offices. He subsequently sat as a Waiting Member of the General Court Martial of John (Eoin) MacNeill and others in May 1916.
