Formed in Dublin in July 1916. Moved to Aldershot by January 1918 but absorbed by 3rd Battalion in May 1918.

Nov 1917 some 200 rifles were stolen from the Battalion at Longford. Capt Terence Poulter, an officer in the battalion wrote afterwards that it had been infiltrated by Longford IRA
